The cut diameter describes the diameter (around the shaft axis on which the cylindrical gear with CAD wheel body is located) at which the CAD model is cut. The FEM mesh of the gear is then adapted to the cut wheel body. This means that the CAD wheel body must at least extend to the cut diameter, otherwise there will be a gap between the wheel body and the gear and the influence of the stiffness will not be correctly considered.
The reference value for the cut is 2.5x the normal module under the root circle radius. If a larger cut diameter is selected, the FEM mesh of the gear must be critically examined.
Once the CAD body is meshed, the cut diameter can no longer be changed. If this is to be changed, the FEM mesh must first be removed. Then, the other steps of the FEM meshing must be carried out again.
